11. Design Outcome Overview
The final outcome is a workshop, a virtual tour of Ani Hila and a discussion forum. The three outcomes are designed based on the overall analysis and findings of the research. The final outcomes are designed to initiate communications, strengthen connections, encourage discussions and spread awareness in the community to form an integrated community sustainability .
What is the Aim?
The broad aim of the workshop is to connect the community by bringing families together on a platform to think and discuss about sustainability with their family members. The research highlighted major gap in communication among families on the issue of sustainability and due to collective decision making approach in the households, it was crucial for family members to re-think and re-imagine solutions together.
Who will attend?
The workshop will be attended by families of district Meerut. Unfortunately, due to lockdown situations I will have to organise an online workshop. But ideally the workshop will be conducted face to face.
What is the structure?
In order to encourage sustainability conversations within family members and between families of district Meerut, the workshop is designed to be responsive, practical and transformative. The purpose of the workshop was to make people imagine solutions, exchange views, think creatively, encourage practicing sustainability and connect.
I read literature on various types of workshops, brainstormed and discussed with fellow designers to divided the workshop into three major activities:
Record reaction to a feeling (Individual Activity)
Create a useful or inspirational form from unwanted/waste material (Family Activity)
Reimagine the self (Individual Activity)

Activity 1: Researches have shown putting our feelings into words helps us reflect and get aware about our true state of mind. In order to help people reflect and think deeply about climate change and the serious consequences this activity will make people record their feelings on a visual/written piece on climate change. Then further discussing about their feeling with their family and other participants will help to address that feeling.
Activity 2: This will be a family activity, hence, it will require all the family members to think, imagine and create a useful or inspirational form from unwanted/waste material collectively. The aim of this activity is to help bring the family together to unitedly think on sustainability.
Activity 3: The primary research findings highlighted that most of the people from the target group felt it was not in their control to bring considerable change in the society and hence they refrained from taking any little actions as well. Reimagining is the ongoing and continuous activity of reflection and choice. This activity is designed to make people reimagine themselves and express the actions they would take in that situation to make them realise and reflect on the possible actions they could take in their lives.
Guided Virtual Tour of Ani Hila
The Virtual Guided Tour was designed to help people experience the sustainable way of life the people of Ani Hila have been living for centuries. It would make people understand that sustainability doesn’t have to be expensive it is about changing the mindset and taking appropriate possible actions. I wanted this tour to be in person but again due to the pandemic that won't be possible and I will be designing Virtual Tour of Ani Hila for people to see and experience the village.
What is the Aim?
During the primary research stage 1, I observed group discussions of Ani Hila and people of the city individually. Which reflected that the mindset of both the groups was quite different and there was strong opportunity for both the groups of people to connect and share thoughts to progress towards taking collective actions towards a sustainable community.
Who will attend?
People of the village Ani Hila and people from the city.
How will it be structured?
In order to encourage people to share their thoughts the discussion is designed as follows:
Step 1: Topic for discussion will be previously communicated to the participants and their thoughts and queries will be collected.
Step 2: Audio/Visual Material will be used during the discussion according to the topic.
Step 3: There will be polls at different intervals of the discussion for better engagement.
